Zededa unveils Kubernetes-as-a-Service for the distributed edge
Zededa has introduced the Zededa Edge Kubernetes Service, a fully managed Kubernetes-as-a-Service designed for the distributed edge. This service aims to simplify Kubernetes infrastructure deployment and management to allow customers to prioritize application development and reduce edge infrastructure expenses.
Said Ouissal, Zededa’s CEO and founder, explains the importance of the company’s new service for the industry: “Our customers are industry leaders who are pushing the boundaries of innovation at the distributed edge, and working with them, we realized the need for an edge service that would remove the obstacles of deploying Kubernetes in these environments.”
According to the company, the Zededa Edge Kubernetes Service provides enhanced security, control and visibility. It integrates with popular orchestrators like Avassa, Rafay, Red Hat OpenShift, SUSE Rancher and VMware Tanzu. This service aims to address challenges in deploying Kubernetes at the edge, including remote locations, constrained devices, limited IT expertise and unreliable security and network connectivity.
Deloitte Global predicts a 22% increase in the edge computing enterprise market in 2023, outpacing enterprise networking equipment and IT infrastructure spending. Alongside this trend, Kubernetes has become essential for containerized application management, with 96% of organizations using or evaluating the service.
Further, market research by Enterprise Strategy Group shows a rising trend in modernization, including containerization at the edge.
Paul Nashawaty, the principal analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group, states: “We see 64% of organizations deploy 26% or more of modern applications at the edge locations. Zededa Edge Kubernetes Service addresses an existing gap between these environments and Kubernetes tools, enabling customers to focus on their workloads instead of how they will run them.”
Zededa was recognized as a “leader” and “outperformer” in GigaOm’s Radar report for Kubernetes for edge computing earlier this year.
Quadrant Knowledge Solutions has also recently named Zededa the 2023 technology leader in the Spark Matrix: Edge Management and Orchestration (EMO) platform. Various industries, including manufacturing, telecommunications, smart cities and autonomous vehicles, currently employ Zededa’s secure edge computing solutions.
Edge management and orchestration is a dynamic market, with vendors strategically investing in acquisitions, in-house development, and collaborative ecosystems. The Spark Matrix by Quadrant Knowledge Solutions analyzes and ranks technology vendors, helping users evaluate capabilities, competitive differentiation and market positions.
