Wind River introduces eLxr Pro enterprise Linux distribution for cloud-to-edge deployments
Wind River, a provider of intelligent system software, launched eLxr Pro, a commercial enterprise Linux offering for cloud-to-edge deployments. eLxr Pro is based on the open-source eLxr project, a Debian-based distribution targeting enterprise and AI workloads. The offering aims to meet performance and operational requirements for various industries, including autonomous vehicles and telecommunications.
eLxr Pro provides long-term commercial support and services, enhancing the open-source eLxr project. The product addresses challenges in deploying edge applications and managing complex workloads. CIOs are reevaluating Linux vendors due to disruptions like CentOS’s end-of-life, increasing demand for cloud-to-edge solutions. eLxr Pro is designed to be a robust, open-source option, is freely available and encourages software distribution and modification under open-source licenses.
“eLxr Pro offers the industry a robust and differentiated option, backed by an industry-leading open source solutions provider,” said Avijit Sinha, president of Wind River.” Wind River offers stability, security updates, and technical assistance for eLxr Pro users and has a long history of providing open-source Linux solutions for edge computing.
Wind River also collaborates with various partners, including Intel, to enhance capabilities.
“The technical design and key attributes of Wind River’s eLxr Pro resonate extremely well with our own observations of what is necessary to succeed in the fast-paced evolution of the edge. The ability to place IoT and AI workloads at the edge efficiently, securely, and robustly; to benefit from container application and AI model packaging standards; and to ensure operational robustness in online and offline scenarios is what will shape the future of IT and OT at the edge. We’re pleased to be a part of the Wind River ecosystem, offering their users market-leading container application management and operations capabilities, and we look forward to scaling together.” Fredrik Lundberg, CEO, Avassa.
eLxr Pro is available on the AWS Marketplace for easy deployment and is tailored for mission-critical, high-availability applications across multiple industries.
