Wind River and Rakuten Symphony team up to advance Open RAN adoption
Wind River, a provider of intelligent system software, has announced a collaboration with Rakuten Symphony to enhance the adoption of Open RAN technology for communication service providers (CSPs).
The partnership expands Rakuten Symphony’s ecosystem for Open RAN 4G and 5G solutions, integrating Wind River Studio Operator and eLxr Pro enterprise Linux.
An end-to-end proof of concept was successfully completed, demonstrating Rakuten’s Open RAN solutions on Wind River’s platform. The collaboration aims to provide CSPs with increased flexibility and choice in transitioning to cloud-based and open RAN architectures.
eLxr Pro offers enterprise-grade support and security for edge deployments, enhancing Rakuten’s cloud portfolio.
“By expanding our partner ecosystem to Wind River, we deliver on the promise of providing additional choice to all customers as they accelerate their journey toward Open RAN,” said Raghunath Hariharan, chief technology officer, Rakuten Symphony. “Our companies are ready and are looking forward to engaging in customer discussions and bringing our stack to market. Rakuten Symphony has long been a supporter of open source initiatives, and eLxr Pro creates a great opportunity to provide more choice and flexibility to customers as they develop for the unique challenges of near-edge networks and workloads.”
Wind River’s Studio Operator is based on the open-source StarlingX project, facilitating cloud-native infrastructure for distributed edge networks.
Wind River has a strong track record in telecommunications, including significant achievements in 5G and Open RAN deployments. The company recently launched eLxr Pro, a commercial enterprise Linux offering for cloud-to-edge deployments.
