Tonaquint, Edgio, Blackberry appoint c-level execs to boost edge deployments
A handful of companies in the edge ecosystem add experience to their c-suites and boards with a series of year-end appointments.
BlackBerry appoints John Giamatteo as CEO
BlackBerry Limited has hired a new chief executive officer. John J. Giamatteo has also been appointed a member of its board of directors. The company notes that Richard (Dick) Lynch, who has served as interim chief executive officer since November, 2023, will continue as board chair.
The company also announced that it will separate the IoT and cybersecurity businesses to operate as fully standalone divisions. BlackBerry will no longer pursue a subsidiary IPO of the IoT business.
“We are delighted to appoint John to the role of CEO for what will be a transformative period in BlackBerry’s history, as we work to fully separate our two core business units to drive enhanced shareholder value,” says Mike Daniels, chair of the compensation, nomination and governance committee of the BlackBerry board.
Tonaquint Data Centers hires new COO and CTO
Tonaquint Data Centers has appointed Terry Morrison as chief operating officer and chief technology officer. Morrison joins from EdgeX Data Centers, which Tonaquint recently acquired.
In his new role, Morrison will oversee Tonaquint’s national data center operations, engineering, construction, security and vendor management teams and lead Tonaquint’s IT and product development organization.

Cybersecurity veteran joins Swissbit
Storage, security and embedded IoT solutions provider Swissbit has announced the appointment of Kai Imgenberg as sales director for embedded IoT solutions. The company notes he will lead a team of IoT sales professionals, and will also play a role in expanding Swissbit’s end-to-end embedded IoT security business across the B2B market, covering everything from chip to cloud.
Prior to joining Swissbit, Imgenberg played a role in developing the international business and team for the leading biometrics software products, services, and solutions provider Aware, Inc. in North America.

nLighten Group hires new channel director for Proximity
Jamie Plumridge has joined the nLighten Group as channel director to spearhead the company’s focus on building a ‘Channel First’ go-to-market strategy that will support its growth plans for the UK business.
Plumridge was previously group alliance director at Computacenter. During a career spanning over 25 years, he has worked with many of the UK’s MSPs, VARs and Distributors to support their business growth through strategic partnerships.

Edgio announces new board of directors
End-to-end edge service provider Edgio, Inc. has reconstituted its board of directors. The five board members include three newly appointed directors: Ken Traub, Frank Verdecanna and Mio Babic. Ken Traub has also been named as chairman of the board.
Traub has over 30 years of experience as a CEO, chairman, director, investor, and consultant in public companies, Verdecanna has more than 29 years of experience working for various technology companies and a public accounting firm, and Babic is recognized as a pioneer in digital media.
