Telco generative AI deployments surge 40% in 3 months according to STL Partners
A recent report by STL Partners notes a 40% increase in generative AI (GenAI) implementations by telecom operators from August to November 2024, totaling 282 announcements.
47% of these implementations focus on productizing generative AI for enterprise clients, including services like chatbots.
51% of the GenAI projects are fully deployed, while 41% are still in exploratory stages.
There is also a growing trend among telcos to develop in-house large language models (LLMs) to avoid dependency on major AI providers like OpenAI or Google.
“Clearly, the industry has noticed telcos’ ambition to adopt GenAI quickly – and solution providers are now rushing to compete for telcos’ attention and partnership,” says Marina Koytcheva, research director at STL Partners. “The good news is that while the growth of GenAI adoption in the telecom industry is steep, these are still early days: we are yet to hear from hundreds more operators around the world about what they are doing with GenAI.”
STL Partners has identified 50 GenAI solutions tailored for the telecom industry, indicating a competitive rush among solution providers to partner with telcos. Find out more insights from the tracker by downloading a summary here.
