T5 Data Centers plans to build a 480 MW capacity data center campus in Illinois
T5 Data Centers announced its plan to develop a new data center campus in Grayslake, Illinois. The project will span a 160-acre site and provide up to 480 megawatts of critical IT capacity to support high-demand applications like cloud services and artificial intelligence.
The campus-style layout will feature multiple data center buildings, offering a flexible and scalable design for phased development. Since the site is already zoned for data center use, T5 anticipates having the initial 60 megawatts up and running by Q4 2027.
“The Chicago land market continues to be one of the premier markets to build and operate data centers because of the attractive tax incentives, labor pool, established connectivity and power availability,” says David Horowitz, senior vice president, Head of Leasing of T5 Data Centers.
T5 Data Centers’ development approach focuses on meeting their customers’ unique needs. Horowitz emphasizes the company aims to accommodate varying preferences in terms of design, build, and operational model.
T5 offers a range of build-to-suit data center solutions, from powered shell buildings to full turnkey options, providing flexibility that is especially advantageous for large enterprises and cloud service providers.
In addition to the customizable solutions, Horowitz highlights strategically selecting locations for T5’s data centers. When choosing a location, the company considers factors such as connectivity, power availability, labor pool, and tax incentives.
He adds, “The site’s location is perfectly positioned between major data center hubs of the northern Chicago suburbs and southeastern Wisconsin, which provides an ideal connection point.”
“As the data center industry continues its rapid growth, we see the scale and efficiencies of large, powered campuses being critical to meet the capacity requirements of the biggest cloud and AI providers,” says Pete Marin, president and chief executive officer of T5 Data Centers.
Earlier this year, the company appointed David Mettler as the new executive vice president of Sales and Marketing.
