Sysdig’s new Cost Advisor tool promises big savings for Kubernetes users
Sysdig, a container and cloud security provider, has announced the launch of Cost Advisor, a cost-saving tool for enterprise customers that use Kubernetes in the cloud.
Many of today’s organizations use Kubernetes resources to deploy edge applications.
Sysdig’s solution aims to reduce the cost of cloud service by combining cost data with Kubernetes workload usage data in Sysdig Monitor. Using this system, engineering and product teams can potentially save hundreds of thousands of dollars, the company claims.
According to last year’s CNCF report, 68 percent of users saw their Kubernetes cost increase over the past year. In fact, the report reveals the cost has increased by over 20 percent. The Sysdig Cost Advisor solution offers some key benefits that can reduce wasted resources by an average of 40 percent and drive accountability, the company claims.
“Managing cloud costs is a critical function of all cloud-native teams, and cost data should be a part of the cloud-native monitoring stack. While containers and Kubernetes enable teams to move fast in the cloud, cost becomes the hardest problem to tackle in these containerized environments,” said Saro Subbiah, vice president of engineering and technology at Sysdig. “Without this cost data, some teams are losing an equivalent of 2 to 3 full-time employees by wasting their money in their cloud spend.”
Sysdig Monitor consolidates cost, performance and utilization data into one platform so that teams can monitor their spending. By using this program, teams are able to discover areas where they can save money and make the corresponding changes to their Kubernetes environment. The platform can also give real-time alerts when the team overspends and allows them to take corrective measures before the next billing cycle.
Most importantly, the unified platform solution allows DevOps teams to view the actual usage and costs. This information will enable organizations to establish best practices.
Sysdig Advisor was released earlier this year and is a Kubernetes troubleshooting feature in Sysdig Monitor, a cloud monitoring platform with full Prometheus compatibility.
