Supermicro unveils AI-driven edge servers targeting $100B retail loss problem
Supermicro, an IT solutions manufacturer specializing in AI, in collaboration with NVIDIA, showcased AI-driven solutions for retail at the National Retail Federation (NRF) 2025 Expo this week.
These solutions leverage NVIDIA AI Enterprise software and generative AI to enhance retail operations, customer experience, and profitability.
Key applications include personalized shopping, logistics automation, and shrinkage prevention. Supermicro offers a wide range of edge AI hardware optimized for low-latency, high-performance retail applications.
Highlighted systems include compact and powerful servers like SYS-112B-FWT, AS-1115S-FWTRT, and SYS-322GA-NR, supporting advanced GPUs like NVIDIA L40S and H100.
Live demos at the event featured AI use cases such as digital human customer service, AI shopping assistants, and video search for shrinkage reduction. AI shopping assistants can answer contextual questions, search for multiple items, and visualize products in real-world settings.
AI video search solutions help combat retail shrinkage, a $100B annual issue in the US, by analyzing camera input in real time.
“Supermicro’s innovative server, storage, and edge computing solutions improve retail operations, store security, and operational efficiency,” says Charles Liang, president and CEO of Supermicro. “At NRF, Supermicro is excited to introduce retailers to AI’s transformative potential and to revolutionize the customer’s experience. Our systems here will help resolve day-to-day concerns and elevate the overall buying experience.”
Supermicro emphasizes its commitment to innovation in enterprise, cloud, AI, and edge IT infrastructure. The company designs and manufactures its products in-house, focusing on efficiency, scalability, and environmental sustainability.
Supermicro’s flexible Server Building Block Solutions allow customers to tailor systems to specific workloads and applications. Supermicro also recently expanded its IoT embedded systems utilizing Intel Atom x7000RE CPUs.
