STMicroelectronics and Qualcomm join forces for wireless IoT with edge AI integration
STMicroelectronics and Qualcomm have formed a strategic partnership focused on wireless IoT solutions enhanced by edge AI.
The partnership will integrate Qualcomm’s wireless connectivity technologies with STMicroelectronics’ STM32 microcontroller ecosystem. Developers will benefit from seamless software integration, facilitating quick adoption of IoT applications.
Initial product offerings are expected to be available to OEMs in Q1 2025, with plans for future products including cellular connectivity.
STMicroelectronics has over 100,000 STM32 customers globally, indicating a significant market reach. Qualcomm’s expertise in wireless technology is expected to enhance the capabilities of ST’s microcontrollers.
The collaboration is positioned to address the growing demand for high-performance wireless connectivity in the IoT market and aims to reduce development time and costs for IoT solutions.
Andrew Zignani, Senior Research Director, ABI Research, commented “With the installed base of consumer, commercial and industrial connected devices expected to reach well over 80 billion units by 2028, the proliferation of high-performance wireless connectivity solutions combined with a diverse suite of microcontrollers will be fundamental in enabling this next wave of wireless IoT innovation”, highlighting the importance of this partnership.
STMicroelectronics launched a new generation of 64-bit edge AI microprocessors for edge computing last summer.
