Snowflake teams up with Mistral AI to integrate language models via Snowflake Cortex

Snowflake, a player in the data cloud space, and Mistral AI, a provider of AI solutions in Europe, have announced a global partnership. The collaboration aims to make Mistral AI’s language models accessible to Snowflake customers, within the secure environment of the data cloud. This long-term partnership also involves an investment in Mistral AI’s Series A from Snowflake Ventures.

The partnership offers Snowflake customers access to Mistral AI’s latest and most potent language model, Mistral Large. The model stands out for its performance benchmarks, positioning it among the top-performing models worldwide, according to the company.

Notably, Mistral Large boasts unique reasoning capabilities, proficiency in code and mathematics, and fluency in five languages, namely French, English, German, Spanish, and Italian. Furthermore, it can process extensive documents, enhancing its utility for enterprises.

Sridhar Ramaswamy, CEO of Snowflake, expresses enthusiasm about the partnership, emphasizing its potential to empower customers in building innovative AI-powered applications at scale.

“With Snowflake as the trusted data foundation, we’re transforming how enterprises harness the power of LLMs through Snowflake Cortex so they can cost-effectively address new AI use cases within the security and privacy boundaries of the data cloud,” adds Ramaswamy.

Snowflake customers will also have access to Mixtral 8x7B, an open-source model by Mistral AI that surpasses benchmarks set by OpenAI’s GPT3.5 in terms of both speed and quality. Additionally, Mistral 7B, optimized for low latency and high throughput with minimal memory requirements, is available. These models are accessible to customers through Snowflake Cortex, a fully managed service facilitating analytics acceleration and rapid development of AI applications with enterprise data.

“Snowflake’s commitments to security, privacy, and governance align with Mistral AI’s ambition to put frontier AI in everyone’s hand and to be accessible everywhere. Mistral AI shares Snowflake’s values for developing efficient, helpful, and trustworthy AI models that advance how organizations around the world tap into generative AI,” says Arthur Mensch, CEO and co-founder of Mistral AI.

“With our models available in the Snowflake data cloud, we are able to further democratize AI so users can create more sophisticated AI apps that drive value at a global scale.”

Snowflake Cortex, initially introduced with support for specialized tasks using language models, continues to evolve. According to both companies, the collaboration with Mistral AI marks a key step in advancing Snowflake Cortex’s suite of foundation language models, facilitating organizations’ adoption of state-of-the-art generative AI across various business functions.
