Siemens and Microsoft bridge IT-OT divide with AI-driven industrial edge integration

Siemens, an industrial and smart infrastructure solution provider and Microsoft have expanded their collaboration to integrate Siemens Industrial Edge with Microsoft Azure IoT Operations, enabling seamless data flow between operational technology (OT) and information technology (IT) systems.

This integration supports adaptive manufacturing by leveraging AI, digital twins, and edge-to-cloud data solutions to improve machine performance, product quality, and reduce maintenance.

Siemens Industrial Edge allows manufacturers to deploy and manage workloads and connectivity applications, bridging shopfloor and cloud environments for real-time data processing. Azure IoT Operations complements Siemens Industrial Edge by providing a unified control plane for IT workloads, enabling hybrid deployment and management at scale.

The collaboration enables manufacturers to use AI and machine learning models trained in the cloud and deployed at the edge for low-latency applications, enhancing production efficiency and reducing costs.

“Siemens and Microsoft are reducing complexity for industrial customers by easing the burden of integrating and managing infrastructure, data and applications,” explained Rainer Brehm, CEO Factory Automation at Siemens. “It is now easier to deploy and scale automation solutions across machines, lines and factories, enabling higher machine performance and reduced maintenance time.”

Digital twins and generative AI capabilities are utilized to optimize production, improve workforce skills, and streamline operations.

Microsoft Fabric, a unified data platform, further enhances data management and analytics, preparing it for AI-driven applications in manufacturing.
