Short Takes: Supermicro testing, Vuzix DoD presentation, Scale Computing guide
A roundup of news from around the edge ecosystem has Supermicro opening customer testing on a new generation of Intel processors, while Vuzix has plans for marketing its smart glasses and software. Also, Scale Computing has a new publication for the edge computing market.
Super Micro Computer
Super Micro Computer announced its early availability program, called JumpStart, which will allow customers to perform workload testing on 3rd-generation Intel Xeon Scalable processor-based Supermicro X12 systems. Qualified customers can access remote X12-based Supermicro systems to develop, validate, tune and benchmark their advanced workloads.
Vuzix
Vuzix, a provider of smart glasses and software for augmented reality applications, said it has participated in an event hosted by Verizon covering the use of 5G by the US Department of Defense. Vuzix provided an overview of its current products, benefits, and use cases, as well as share its thoughts related to how 5G and mobile edge computing can deliver new tools and real-time capabilities by processing on the edge and rendering them to the heads-up display of smart glasses. Scale Computing
Scale Computing announced the release of a new eBook, “The Gorilla Guide to Enabling IT at the Edge” that aims to help readers understand the edge computing need and opportunity. According to the company, the new resource “Will help readers understand the fundamental principles of edge computing, enumerate the key requirements for a successful edge deployment, and provide practical guidance as to how to get started.” The guide can be downloaded here.
