SensiML announces new open-source AutoML software for edge computing

SensiML Corporation, a subsidiary of QuickLogic, has launched its open-source initiative Piccolo AI, with the goal of democratizing access to AI technology, particularly for edge computing.

Piccolo AI represents the first open-source AutoML (Automated Machine Learning) software designed specifically for creating intelligent sensor algorithms at the edge.

Announced last month, Piccolo AI is now live and aims to foster collaboration among developers, researchers, and AI enthusiasts. The initiative offers a suite of resources hosted on sensiml.org, including project information, updates, and documentation. Additionally, a community forum has been established to facilitate discussions and knowledge sharing.

At the core of Piccolo AI is its GitHub repository, which provides free access to the AutoML codebase. The repository aims to enable users to leverage technology for their projects.

Chris Rogers, CEO of SensiML, says: “We are excited to release our AutoML solution as an open-source project. This milestone underscores our commitment to empowering developers and accelerating the development of intelligent edge solutions. We believe that collaborative efforts within the open-source community will drive rapid advancements in edge AI technology.”

Features of the SensiML Open-Source AutoML solution include machine learning model creation for sensor data, tailored optimization for embedded systems’ constraints such as efficient performance and low power consumption, and extensive documentation including guides, tutorials, and API references. The initiative also emphasizes community support through the SensiML Forum, encouraging engagement, knowledge exchange, and collaborative development.

With the launch of Piccolo AI, SensiML says it aims to broaden access to AI capabilities, in a bid to enable developers worldwide to deploy intelligent edge solutions.

Earlier this year, SensiML introduced Data Studio, a platform designed to transform sensor data management. The company claims this solution aids engineers and data scientists by streamlining AI engineering projects, particula
