Quantinuum launches Quantum Origin Onboard to enhance the security of IoT devices
Quantinuum, an integrated quantum computing company, has launched Quantum Origin Onboard, a software designed to enhance the security of IoT devices connected to enterprise infrastructure. The solution improves the security of connected devices by generating keys within the devices themselves, using quantum computing for extra protection.
According to Quantinuum, the conventional methods of producing cryptographic keys may not be dependable.
“While quantum computing has the potential to render current encryption algorithms obsolete, posing a significant challenge to businesses and individuals alike, already today sophisticated attackers can take advantage of vulnerable encryption keys,” says Dr. Rajeeb Hazra, the chief executive officer of Quantinuum.
Quantinuum says Quantum Origin Onboard strengthens the security system by safeguarding the cryptographic keys generated at the device level against potential vulnerabilities and attacks on IoT edge devices. Using this software security platform can help businesses mitigate the risks that come with using encryption keys that are weak or compromised, company executives say.
Specifically, Quantum Origin Onboard embeds a quantum seed into devices. Quantinuum’s H-Series quantum computer creates this seed, consisting of a string of unpredictable numbers. It enhances the device’s capacity to generate strong and secure keys.
The company also claims Quantum Origin Onboard can seamlessly integrate with the current infrastructure without changing the hardware architecture.
“With our Quantum Origin Onboard and the overall Quantum Origin platform, organizations can fortify defenses across multiple endpoints and embrace the possibilities of a quantum-secure future. The next era of data security is here, and we are proud to be at the forefront as we collaborate with organizations worldwide,” Hazra adds.
