New report touts VMware vSphere alternatives for SMBs with edge sites
An inaugural report by The Data Center Intelligence Group (DCIG) is offering small organizations impacted by Broadcom’s VMware software licensing changes viable vSphere alternatives.
DCIG has identified more cost-favorable solutions including software utilities that simplify VM migrations from vSphere to their platform in its inaugural 2024-25 DCIG TOP 5 SMB/Edge VMware vSphere Alternatives report.
The firm explains that SMBs and organizations with edge environments have different requirements for a VMware vSphere alternative than enterprises, such as still needing a vSphere alternative to offer specific core features. These include high-availability, product reliability, software-defined storage, software-defined networking, and the ability to host Windows and Linux guest OSes.
DCIG formally evaluated 15 different VMware vSphere alternative solutions and ranked the top five being, in alphabetical order: HiveIO Hive Fabric; NodeWeaver; Scale Computing Platform (SC//Platform); StorMagic SvHCI, and; VergeIO VergeOS.
