NearbyComputing, 6WIND collaborate on optimizing routing and security for edge deployments
NearbyComputing, a company specializing in the orchestration and automation of multi-access edge computing (MEC) and 5G, has formed a partnership with 6WIND, a provider of networking software solutions. The two companies want to address the challenges related to coordinated communication between distributed edge devices. A co-developed solution aims to optimize the routing and security for enterprise-scale edge deployments.
As part of the collaboration, NearbyComputing utilizes 6WIND’s expertise in network virtualization and software-defined networking to create advanced network intelligence solutions. The goal is to offer customers a comprehensive offering that combines routing and security capabilities with NearbyComputing’s existing management and orchestration platform. This collaboration has gained recognition by successfully securing a contract with a telco edge company in the APAC region.
“Partnering with 6WIND is a significant step for us as we continue to expand our partner ecosystem with innovative and market-ready solutions that are critical to the adoption of edge computing use cases,” says Josep Martí, CEO of NearbyComputing. “Only with partners like 6WIND can we create value-added solutions that combine efficient routing and security with the management and orchestration that Nearby provides.”
The NearbyComputing platform is designed to enable enterprises to efficiently manage distributed edge systems, networks, and applications across the entire edge-to-cloud spectrum. It addresses challenges associated with edge deployment by handling both infrastructure and function-specific components. Through its orchestration capabilities, customers gain the ability to effectively provision, allocate resources, and manage edge nodes through a unified interface.
The virtual service router (VSR) product suite from 6WIND consists of virtualized networking software designed for cloud-native environments. These optimized routers are tailored for enterprise use. The solution takes advantage of 6WIND’s core technology (6WNOS), which is claimed to significantly reduce carbon footprint and energy consumption by over 50 percent.
“We are very excited to partner with NearbyComputing and bring our expertise in network virtualization and software-defined networking to their edge computing solutions; this partnership will enable us to reach a wider audience and provide our VSR software solutions to more customers around the globe who are looking to accelerate their virtualization journey,” says Julien Dahan, CEO at 6WIND.
