IT leaders under pressure to adopt edge computing and IoT, Couchbase survey says
A new survey conducted by Couchbase, a cloud-to-edge database platform provider, revealed that IT leaders are pressured to adopt emerging technologies like edge computing and the Internet of Things (IoT).
The survey of 600 IT decision-makers also showed that digital transformation priorities have shifted and more than half (53%) of enterprises are either on target or ahead of their planned progress.
Ravi Mayuram, the CTO at Couchbase, believes that IT modernization and digital transformation are crucial initiatives for an enterprise.
“These survey results show how an efficient approach to digital transformation, taking full advantage of advances in data, cloud and AI can help with business resiliency and simultaneously pursue new growth opportunities,” says Mayuram.
Concerning the pressure to adopt emerging technologies, the survey showed that serverless computing, edge computing and IoT had the highest adoption rate with 35%. Web 3.0 and augmented or virtual reality were less of a priority.
According to the survey, global enterprises are investing heavily in IT modernization and implementing new projects to improve business resilience and efficiency despite changing digital transformation goals. Enterprise’s top priority for 2023 is to empower developers to create modern applications.
The report reveals that digital transformation projects are becoming increasingly important for developers, driven by the need for agile development and innovation (44%) and providing developers with the tools to build applications that meet customer needs (44%). Furthermore, IT investment priorities have shifted from improving application performance to empowering developers.
“These survey results show how an efficient approach to digital transformation, taking full advantage of advances in data, cloud and AI can help with business resiliency and at the same time pursue new growth opportunities,” says Mayuram.
The report also notes that IT spending is under increased scrutiny, with CFOs asking more questions about investment and the pressure to achieve transformation with limited resources growing.
Project challenges have caused delays and cost organizations, on average, $4.4 million. However, 38% of IT teams focus on modernization projects that will provide immediate results, and 100% of enterprises have identified opportunities for creative digital transformation projects. According to the survey, these projects offer the potential for pushing the boundaries of what is possible and driving innovation.
