Intel and MobiledgeX partner to improve mobile edge infrastructure
MobiledgeX and Intel have entered a new partnership focusing on improving the performance of mobile edge services. As part of the new collaboration, Intel’s newest generation of processors are now available on MobiledgeX Edge-Cloud.
The 3rd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors are designed with built-in AI (artificial intelligence) acceleration, crypto acceleration, and advanced security capabilities that can be used in mobile edge infrastructure, services, and applications.
The Xeon Scalable processors feature up to 40 cores and support a wide range of frequency, feature, and power levels, while also being compatible with Intel’s portfolio of memory, storage, and connectivity solutions.
Intel’s latest Xeon processors will be offered in MobiledgeX’s edge cloud offering.

Their integration within the Edge-Cloud multi-cloud orchestration and automation solution will reportedly help mobile network operators improve hardware performance, lower TCO (total cost of ownership) and enable application portability.
Specific applications include scalable use case deployments such as AI, video analytics, and cloud-native network functions.
According to MobiledgeX, the new partnership will also explore the use of other Intel technologies at the edge, including Intel Smart Edge Open edge computing toolkit and the Intel distribution of the OpenVINO toolkit.
For context, the collaboration builds on a previous one between MobiledgeX and Intel as participants of the GSMA Operator Platform Group, as part of which they jointly contributed to the assessment of the GSMA Operator Platform Telco Edge Requirements.
MobiledgeX has also recently partnered with Google, to enable automation and orchestration of 5G apps.
