Fastly bolsters executive ranks; announces new CMO, CISO and general counsel
Fastly, Inc expands its executive team with two new members and a key management promotion. Peter Alexander joins as chief marketing officer (CMO), Marshall Erwin as chief information security officer (CISO), and Karen Greenstein is promoted to general counsel.
Fastly notes that Alexander is an experienced marketing executive with over 25 years of expertise in technology marketing, product strategy, and product management. He has a track record of driving growth for technology brands. He has held leadership positions at Check Point Software Technologies, Harmonic and Cisco.
“His brand development experience, entrepreneurial spirit, and expertise in scaling high-performing teams is a powerful combination,” says Todd Nightingale, CEO at Fastly.
Alexander obtained a B.Eng in Electrical & Electronic Engineering from the University of Bradford, UK. He furthered his education by earning an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley, and an EMSc in Behavioral Science from the London School of Economics.
He will officially commence his duties on August 1st and is based in San Francisco.
With prior experience as the Chief Security Officer at Mozilla, Marshall Erwin played a crucial role in establishing the company’s reputation as a strong advocate for its users. Erwin’s background includes serving in the US intelligence community, specializing in cybersecurity and counterterrorism.
He also held positions as a cybersecurity and counterterrorism advisor in the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee. Additionally, Erwin was a Fellow at Stanford University and Stanford’s Center for Internet and Society.
“Fastly is focused on building a better, safer internet and that means ensuring security for our customers, our end-users, our platforms, and our own enterprise,” states Nightingale.
Additionally, Karenstein has been promoted to General Counsel at Fastly, completing the company’s leadership team. With previous experience in corporate legal roles at Business.com, Viacom, and NBC Universal, Greenstein brings legal expertise to the team.
She joined the company in 2019 and has served as interim General Counsel for several quarters.
Gartner was recently acknowledged by Gartner in its Magic Quadrant Report for Web Application and API Protection (WAAP). Gartner positioned Fastly as a challenger in terms of both vision and execution capabilities.
