Ericsson launches 5G routers to boost secure IoT and vehicle AI connectivity

Ericsson launched two new routers, the Cradlepoint R980 and S400, to enhance secure and reliable Wireless WAN for enterprises.

The R980 is a ruggedized 5G router designed for vehicles, supporting advanced applications like AI-driven video recognition and real-time data analysis. The S400 is a semi-ruggedized IoT device that provides secure connectivity for various IoT applications, featuring a zero-trust network approach.

Both routers integrate with Ericsson’s NetCloud platform, which simplifies deployment, management, and security for large-scale IoT and vehicle networks.

“Our customers are increasingly demanding the speed, reliability, and security that 5G and LTE Wireless WAN offer,” says Ed Walton, CEO of STEP, a partner for Ericsson Wireless WAN and Enterprise 5G. “Both the R980 and S400 address our customers’ need for mass-deployment, ensuring optimal performance and security in demanding environments. At STEP, we are always impressed with how NetCloud features continue to evolve to help us to scale our services efficiently, so customers can focus on their core business.”

New Cellular Intelligence features in NetCloud automate carrier selection and monitor cellular health, improving installation efficiency and troubleshooting.

The R980 is compatible with 3GPP Release 16, ensuring readiness for standalone networks and network slicing.

Ericsson emphasizes the growing demand for secure, resilient connectivity as AI and advanced applications transform industries.
