Equinix, Alice & Bob unite to push enterprise quantum computing boundaries
Equinix, a digital infrastructure provider, has partnered with Alice & Bob, a quantum technology firm, to help businesses in the UK and worldwide boost the use of quantum computing.
Both companies claim that by combining Equinix’s digital infrastructure with Alice & Bob’s quantum technology, businesses in various industries can tap into the power of quantum computing through Equinix Metal and Equinix Fabric.
Théau Peronnin, CEO of Alice & Bob, says: “We are proud that our technology is moving out of the laboratory and into the real world. We are looking forward to helping Equinix customers solve some of the world’s most challenging problems.”
The companies say integrating quantum computing in various industries could result in a value gain of up to $1.3 trillion by 2035. Sectors such as sustainable energy, chemicals, pharmaceuticals and finance may benefit the most.
Bruce Owen, the managing director of Equinix UK, adds: “Our work with Alice & Bob will be key to allowing our customers worldwide to experience the unprecedented possibilities of quantum computing.
“The transformative impacts of quantum computing in the automotive, pharmaceuticals, finance, sustainability, cybersecurity and chemicals industries is exciting. I am proud to be part of this journey.”
Quantum computing has the potential to redefine industry processes and revolutionize everything from our understanding of the universe to combating climate change, both companies note.
It also exceeds supercomputers by 158 million times in speed. It offers power and energy efficiency through quantum tunneling to reduce power consumption by up to 100-1000 times compared to traditional computers, according to reports.
Alice & Bob add that its cat qubit technology offers a fault-tolerant and universal gate-based quantum computing solution that enables businesses to benefit from quantum computing.
Equinix notes that Equinix Metal provides businesses with on-demand, high-performance bare metal resources, while Equinix Fabric helps deploy infrastructure across international locations.
Elsewhere, Equinix partnered with Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) to expand its GreenLake private cloud offerings at Equinix IBX data centers. HPE’s private cloud portfolio, the company says, enables customers to build hybrid cloud strategies, combining the benefits of a private cloud environment with the flexibility and scalability of a public cloud.
HPE has already established the necessary infrastructure and resources for deploying private clouds in Equinix IBX data centers, including HPE GreenLake for Private Cloud Enterprise and HPE GreenLake for Private Cloud Business Edition.
