Edge Impulse appoints former Arm CEO Simon Segars to its board of directors
Edge Impulse, an IoT development platform provider, has announced a new appointment of Simon Segars, a former CEO of Arm from 2013 to 2022, to its board of directors. The technology leader joined Arm in the early 1990s as a chip design engineer to work on innovative power efficiency SoC designs. As Arm CEO, Segars grew the company into a “powerhouse of compute,” impacting the evolving embedded market.
Segars has close relations with a few of the top leaders at Edge Impulse. The former Arm CEO was part of the acquisition VP-level leadership roles at Zach Shelby’s previous startup, Sensinode, which was later acquired by Arm. Serving in the leadership roles at an IoT and machine learning startup, Segars took a deep understanding of the future of IoT while also monitoring the development process. Edge Impulse’s COO William DeLey has previously worked as Segars’ Chief of Staff at Arm.
“It is a huge honor to have Simon join the board of Edge Impulse,” said Zach Shelby, co-founder and CEO at Edge Impulse. “He brings world-class technology and business leadership, and shares our vision of enabling millions of developers with machine learning to tap the power of the edge, building on what Arm did by making computing pervasive.”
The list of existing board members includes the CEO and co-founder Zach Shelby, CTO and co-founder Jan Jongboom, Rayfe Gaspar-Asaoka from Canaan Partners, and David Cahn from Coatue Management. Segars happens to become the fifth board member at Edge Impulse after serving on the board of SoftBank Group Corp. and chair of the Global Semiconductor Alliance. Simon Segar has also been nominated to the board of Vodafone Group Plc.
“Unlocking our world’s potential through smarter, more efficient, and accessible computing has been a consistent theme in my professional journey,” said Segars. “Edge Impulse shares this vision and is at the center of the next frontier of edge computing, by empowering developers to harness machine learning across all classes of edge devices.”
One of the easiest ways to get started with embedded machine learning after purchasing an embedded device capable of running AI algorithms is the Edge Impulse IoT development platform. The platform enables developers to develop next-generation innovation edge computing solutions along with training and deployment of the AI models.
