DigiKey, Ambiq join forces to bring ultra-low power ICs to global markets
DigiKey has partnered with Ambiq to distribute its ultra-low-power semiconductors, expanding its selection of technical components and automation products.
DigiKey will stock Ambiq’s Apollo4 Blue Plus, a 4th generation system processor solution built on Ambiq’s Subthreshold Power-Optimized Technology (SPOT) platform. The companies say the technology will enable designers to accelerate innovation in next-gen wearables and battery-operated smart devices while ensuring extended battery life.
The Apollo4 Blue Plus manages AI algorithms, neural networks and always-on voice recognition. The processor also integrates graphics and is powered by Bluetooth Low Energy connectivity.
Mike Kenyon, vice president of sales and business development at Ambiq, says: “Ambiq shares the same value of meeting and exceeding customers’ expectations with DigiKey. We’re excited to partner with DigiKey to offer our portfolio of ultra-low-power, AI-enabled semiconductor solutions to help ease the customer’s search for the best electronic components in one place.”
The company says it is renowned for its durable products, lasting weeks on a single charge. These products blend extended battery life with various features and designs.
DigiKey, located in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, distributes electronic components and automation products. With over 17.2 million components from 2,800 manufacturers, DigiKey says its digital solutions and tools cater to engineers, designers, builders and procurement professionals.
In 2020, Northern Mechatronics, a Canadian RF and wireless solutions manufacturer, selected Ambiq’s Apollo3 Blue microprocessor for its LoRa Bluetooth 5 Low Energy Module, the NM180100. This single-package solution is designed for IoT applications.
The companies note the NM180100 is a highly integrated and flexible module solution for edge and endpoint computing. It enables wireless communication with both short and long-range capabilities.
Wireless communications expertise is crucial for agriculture, electric and gas metering control and property management. Further, the rise of industrial IoT and the advent of 5G have increased the pressure for faster time to market in today’s competitive landscape.
The NM180100 includes the evaluation board NM180100EVB, the NM180310 small form factor application board, a software development kit, full programmability and regulatory certifications for FCC and IC/ISED.
