Dell tailors new edge solutions for retailers
Dell Technologies is targeting retailers with integrated hardware, software, and network management products that leverage edge computing. The goal: help retailers use data generated at stores and improve customer experience.
A recent study commissioned by Dell and conducted by 451 Research, part of S&P Global Market Intelligence, found that 77% of retailers expect to increase edge deployments significantly in the next two years.
Retailers are shifting from traditional approaches to digital technologies for frictionless checkout and loss prevention with the aid of edge computing techniques. Dell Technologies’ edge solutions enable retail users to manage and scale their infrastructure from edge data centers to the edge network to deliver enhanced in-store customer experience, according to executives.
“Retailers are increasingly relying on IT technologies and data at the edge to offer more personalized and intelligent customer experiences that drive better business outcomes, dramatically accelerating the need for retailers to bring together siloed technologies,” said Gil Shneorson, senior vice president of edge solutions, Dell Technologies. “We’re helping retailers easily consolidate these technologies so they can analyze data where it’s created, make faster decisions and deliver positive experiences for in-store shoppers and employees.”
Dell Validated Design for Retail Edge consolidates applications in a single infrastructure stack for easy deployment, management and support. VMware Edge Compute Stack is integrated with the Dell Validated Design, providing retailers the ability to track and manage applications at the edge and securely scale them to additional edge locations. Another part of the equation: Enterprise Sonic Distribution by Dell Technologies 4.0, which leverages open-source software for managing networks from the data center to edge environments. The goal is to help retailers add new applications quickly, such as Deep North’s video analytics platform. Deep North’s platform can generate data insights for optimizing product development and other associated parameters such as preventing product loss and tracking inventory.
“We are excited that Deep North’s real-time video analytics platform supports the Dell Validated Design for Retail Edge,” said Rohan Sanil, CEO and co-founder of Deep North. “We look forward to helping retailers leverage AI to gain line-of-sight into the path-to-purchase in-store to identify opportunities to create a better customer experience, improve store operations and drive sales.”
Dell said customers and partners can collaborate on edge technologies and applications in the Dell Technologies Customer Solution Centers Innovation Labs. The company has added a new lab in Round Rock, Texas, where customers can test existing edge technologies and design custom solutions for retail as well as manufacturing, healthcare and other verticals. The Round Rock lab is set to open later this year, joining existing labs in Ireland and Singapore.
Dell Validated Design for Retail Edge will be globally available in June 2022. More details will certainly be discussed at Dell Technology World annual conference in Las Vegas, May 2-5, 2022
