Decarbonization, circular asset management is the goal for Aligned Data Centers’ new traceability system

Aligned Data Centers, a provider of data center solutions, has announced the integration of OriginMark, a material traceability system that accelerates supply chain decarbonization and circular asset management. The company has been known for its sustainable solutions– Scale Data Centers and Built-to-Scale for the global hyperscale and enterprise markets.

With the introduction of the OriginMark system, Aligned’s existing Insight platform for environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategy will provide a more transparent view of their carbon footprint by tracing the lifecycle of data center equipment and devices, executives say. The system will also identify material recovery and provide recycling options.

“By deploying enhanced material traceability across our data center campuses, Aligned will be able to combine robust carbon footprint quantification data with our energy-efficient platform and renewable energy options,” says Phill Lawson-Shanks, chief innovation officer at Aligned.

OriginMark is an open standard for material traceability developed by Molg, a circular manufacturing company. As a part of the rollout of the material traceability system, Aligned Data Centers will work with their partners to integrate OriginMark technology in new builds and the expansion of existing infrastructure. The Aligned Insight platform will enable enterprises to identify the trapped carbon and manage the circularity of the products, such as generators, power distribution units, uninterruptible power supply units, and more.

“Today’s hyperscale companies and cloud providers have set aggressive sustainability and carbon reduction targets focused on achieving net-zero emissions in the very near future. Having transparency into the environmental impact of their global data center footprint is critical to realizing these goals,” Lawson-Shanks further adds.

Aligned Data Centers partnered with nZero, a carbon management platform, to provide transparent data on their operational carbon footprint to better inform the sustainability strategies adopted by the company and its enterprise customers.

“This industrial ecological initiative will enhance our circular approach to material consumption and production, improving the operational effectiveness and sustainability of our adaptive, intelligent infrastructure, and further accelerating the zero-carbon transition of Aligned as well as our customers,” notes Lawson-Shanks. “Environmental alignment across our supply chain is critical to our comprehensive net-zero strategy, which addresses both direct and indirect emissions.”
