DataBank adds capacity to SLC5, readies sixth data center in Salt Lake City
DataBank recently announced the opening of data halls number four and five in its SLC5 data center, located at the company’s Granite Point North campus complex in Bluffdale, Utah. The company recently announced the opening of data hall three at the same location.
These are the fourth and fifth of five data halls at DataBank’s SLC5 facility, each providing 10,000 square feet of raised floor and 2 MW of UPS. The opening of these remaining data halls brings SLC5’s total to 50,000 square feet of raised flooring and 10 MW of critical IT load.
Like the rest of the facilities on the Granite Point campus, SLC5 offers network connectivity to over a dozen carriers and cloud providers, as well as access to DataBank’s own private, onsite, 66 MW N+1 power substation.
The SLC5 campus was built from the ground up with a full suite of customer amenities and security features that meet HIPAA, PCI-DSS, SSAE-18 SOC1 and SOC2, and GDPR compliance requirements. This combination of power, network, facilities and the convenience and peace-of-mind ensure that DataBank’s SLC5 is the ideal data center for the high-performance computing for content providers, cloud giants, hyperscale providers, and large enterprises.
The Salt Lake City region — also known as the “Silicon Slopes” — provides a business-friendly environment and low cost of living that can help any enterprise grow. That, combined with low power costs and ample network connectivity, have led to an explosion of large technology companies putting down roots in the state.
“The completion of the five data halls is reflective of the regional embrace of technology and of unrelenting customer demand for colocation, connectivity, and cloud services,” notes Raul Martynek, DataBank’s CEO. “All of this solidifies Salt Lake City’s status as a prime location for enterprise-class data centers.”
Begins construction of SLC6
DataBank has also begun construction of its sixth Salt Lake City data center, SLC6, increasing capacity to meet the fast-growing demand for mission-critical IT infrastructure in Utah and the Salt Lake City market.
SLC6 also resides on DataBank’s 23-acre Granite Point Campus in Bluffdale, UT. The new data center adds 100,000 sq. ft. of data center space and 22 MW of total power. SLC6 will be adjacent to four other DataBank facilities on the campus providing convenience for customers looking to expand capacity and efficiently leveraging existing staff and resources.
Bluffdale, UT, is minutes from downtown Salt Lake City, where SLC6 and the Granit Point campus offer network connectivity to more than a dozen carriers and cloud providers, as well as access to DataBank’s own private 66MW N+1 power substation. The facility has been designed from the ground up with a full suite of customer amenities and all the security features needed to meet HIPAA, PCI-DSS, SSAE-18 SOC1 and SOC2, GDPR, and FISMA compliance requirements.
“Offering a range of colocation, cloud, connectivity, and managed services, DataBank’s SLC6 facility will offer the ideal place for an enterprise to grow and control its own destiny,” comments Raul Martynek, CEO at DataBank. “In addition, it further contributes to Utah’s status as a key center for enterprise-class data centers.”
“We are proud to provide our customers with the reliable IT infrastructure they need to create a limitless digital future for their business,” adds Martynek. “The DataBank expansion aligns with the company’s commitment to enterprises with workloads of all shapes and sizes, from high-density hyperscalers to local small businesses that do business on the edge.”
This combination of power, network, facilities, and the convenience of a campus-like setting ensure that DataBank’s SLC6 will be a major data center for the high-performance computing, content providers, cloud giants, hyperscale providers, and large enterprises that are giving Utah its “Silicon Slopes” moniker.
