Cox Communications, Dell team up to combat retail shrinkage
Cox Communications and Dell Technologies have joined forces to develop technology solutions for retailers, focusing on enhancing inventory management, product security and foot traffic monitoring.
Leveraging Dell Technologies’ industry expertise and partner ecosystem, including EPIC iO and the DeepInsights AI + IOT Platform, this collaboration enables Cox Communications to provide solutions to address customer challenges, the company says.
“The key to reducing shrinkage is the ability to proactively address product loss and immediately respond to profit loss incidents in real-time,” says Josh Sommer, the vice president of new growth and development at Cox Communications.
He discusses the importance of the partnership and states, “By harnessing the power of Cox’s fiber-powered network, paired with Dell’s powerful infrastructure, we can bring the cloud right to the storefront and allow retailers to help minimize loss prevention while ensuring lasting customer loyalty.”
Retail shrinkage is a major concern for retailers, with theft, cashier errors, skipped checkout lines and label switching causing an annual loss of around 2% of total sales, as reported by the National Retail Federation.
To address these challenges, Cox Communications is leveraging its fiber-powered network and emerging technologies such as Cox Private Networks. These will be used with EPIC iO’s AI analytics platform and Dell’s computing platform and infrastructure to create efficient, easy to use retail solutions, the companies say.
David Trigg, the vice president of strategic planning at Telecom Systems Business at Dell Technologies, also emphasizes the benefits of this collaboration. According to him, edge technology enables real-time data analysis in retail stores, facilitating faster decision-making and enhancing the shopping experience for customers and employees.
“With Cox’s network, combined with Dell edge infrastructure, retailers have a solution that is quick to install and easy to manage while delivering on customer shopping expectations,” Trigg explains.
Cox Communications, the largest private broadband company in the US, connects millions of homes and businesses nationwide with fiber-powered broadband networks. They offer advanced cloud and managed IT services. Cox Business, its commercial services division, provides fiber-based network and managed solutions for various industries including healthcare, education, finance, government and retail.
Earlier this year Cox Communications acquired Logicworks, a managed cloud services company helping customers migrate and manage their business applications on AWS and Azure platforms. By bringing together Logicworks and RapidScale, part of Cox Business, Cox says it aims to provide top-notch cloud solutions to businesses in the US and beyond.
