Cologix elevates Columbus’ tech hub status with completion of AI-ready data center
Cologix, a network-neutral interconnection and hyperscale edge data center company, has completed its fourth data center in the North American region.
The new facility in Columbus, Ohio, spans 256,000 square feet, and is positioned on a seven-acre campus, equipped to accommodate the demand for AI applications. According to the company, it offers connectivity options, scalable power solutions, and security features, including redundancy measures and security systems.
Additionally, the facility incorporates green initiatives, aligning with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) principles.
Dawn Smith, president of Cologix, emphasizes the company’s recognition of Columbus’ importance as a technology hub over a decade ago. “The completion of COL4 comes at a crucial time with hyperscalers intensifying their focus on cloud regions and laying the groundwork for seamless AI integration with cloud services,” Smith highlights.
“This is the first colocation AI-ready data center completed in Columbus and is poised to support this surge in demand. We look forward to continuing to deliver market-leading colocation and interconnection solutions for the Columbus market.”
Cologix boasts four data centers covering a total of 500,000 square feet and 80 MW of power. All four facilities are interconnected with a fiber ring, in a bid to enhance connectivity options for its clients.
Columbus Mayor Andrew J. Ginther welcomes Cologix’s expansion into the city, citing it as a testament to Columbus’ potential in fostering technological growth. J.P. Nauseef, president and CEO of JobsOhio, emphasizes the significance of Cologix’s investment in Ohio’s tech boom, highlighting the benefits for local businesses amid increasing demand for cloud connectivity and AI usage.
“Columbus is an attractive data center market due to its geography, strong tax incentives and diverse economy,” adds Ed Socia, insight director North America for datacenterHawk.
“The data center market in the region has an impressive average annual growth rate of 29.42 percent. Total commissioned power for data centers in the region has grown by over 1GW since 2020. Operators that have been able to secure a path to power are well-positioned in the market.”
