CityFibre selects BATM Edgility solution to provide edge compute, network services for businesses
BATM says that CityFibre, a provider of fiber network services in Britain, will adopt the Edgility virtual networking and edge compute solution for providing virtualized network services. CityFibre’s plans for the BATM edge computing solution involve a pilot program with selected partners, followed by a national deployment.
Through the adoption of BATM Telco Systems Edgility solution, CityFibre will be able to efficiently deploy and manage physical edge devices at scale, executives say. CityFibre will also be able to provide virtualized services from a central location, eliminating the need for on-site technical support, they add.
“We are delighted to partner with CityFibre to support delivering their virtualized network vision,” said Dr. Zvi Marom, CEO of BATM. “The selection of Edgility by such a significant telecoms company is a fantastic validation of our best-in-class technology, which we expect will lead to further interest from other businesses.”
Edgility is an ecosystem of networking products and services based on network function virtualization technology (NFV) and includes an operating system and a cloud-based management and orchestration system. Telco Systems, a subsidiary of BATM, is the home for the Edgility OS (previously known as the NFVTime), which is a high-performance, low-footprint NFVi OS that turns any Arm or Intel architecture into an operational far edge device.
CityFibre is expected to explore some projects on testing onboarding and in-life journeys for the partners and customers ahead of national deployment. As CityFibre aims to reduce carbon emissions and lower the total cost of ownership, the adoption of the Edgility solution will be part of the mission.
“BATM’s carrier-grade networking expertise and management of virtualized edge devices at scale make them an ideal innovation partner,” said David Tomalin, group CTO of CityFibre. “The Edgility Suite will enable us to efficiently manage vast numbers of physical edge devices from a centralized location while providing greater control over costs, choice of virtualized service vendor and reducing waste and CO2 emissions.”
BATM recently announced that Telco Systems has partnered with Advantech to provide a pre-installed Edgility operating system on a wide range of Advantech’s edge network appliances.
