BlackBerry, AWS partner up to bring UEM to the edge and IoT devices
BlackBerry, an intelligent security software and service provider, and Amazon Web Services (AWS), has announced the launch of two new Unified Endpoint Management (UEM) products: ‘UEM at the Edge’ and ‘UEM for the IoT’.
According to Blackberry executives, IoT is a crucial driver of digital transformation that expands business possibilities by extending the reach of IT. However, enterprise IoT is underutilized due to compute requirements and network complexity. Edge computing addresses real-time data needs, while endpoint visibility enhances security, making IoT integration easier for organizations.
Neelam Sandhu, chief elite customer success officer at BlackBerry, says: “It has been wonderful to collaborate with AWS to develop BlackBerry UEM at the edge and BlackBerry UEM for the IoT to enable our customers to unlock new business value through digital technologies, which offer the potential to transform and advance every aspect of the connected world, spanning how we live and work.”
Blackberry notes the solution combines BlackBerry’s secure connectivity infrastructure with AWS Local Zones and Availability Zones to bring the BlackBerry Network Operations Center (NOC) to the edge. It facilitates the safe deployment of compute, storage and other services at the data generation and consumption point. BlackBerry UEM at the edge integrates with both on-premises and cloud-based BlackBerry UEM solutions.
BlackBerry UEM for IoT expands unified endpoint management to IoT devices, enabling organizations to harness the benefits of IoT while reducing risks. It integrates with AWS IoT Greengrass to provide visibility and management for IoT endpoints. Blackberry executives say this addition allows seamless and secure inventory and IT and IoT endpoints management from a single console.
According to Dr. Sarah Cooper, general manager for industry products at AWS, IoT and integrating IoT with security has become crucial for the connected world.
“Connecting systems in the cloud offers scalability, consistency, and flexibility for organizations to access IoT data and for developers to create new value,” adds Cooper.
BlackBerry says it will share details about BlackBerry UEM at the edge and BlackBerry UEM for the IoT, including availability dates, at the BlackBerry Summit on October 17.
