Aligned Data Centers comes to Chicago with Delta3 cooling tech

Aligned Data Centers, a provider of data center solutions, announced the first-phase completion of its hyperscale data center campus in Chicago that is designed to efficiently support robust, scalable applications. The launch of Aligned’s ORD-01 data center comes simultaneously with the groundbreaking of the second adjacent hyperscale data center facility, ORD-02. Both the multi-story facilities will cover an area of 18.5 acres with over 100 MW of capacity.

“Chicago’s centralized location, long-haul connectivity, and access to renewable energy options make it an ideal geostrategic destination for hyperscalers and multinational enterprises to deploy their mission-critical infrastructure,” states Andrew Schaap, CEO of Aligned. “Bringing one hyperscale data center online the same day that we break ground on a second facility is a testament not only to the demand for Aligned’s adaptive and sustainable data center platform but to our ability to deliver infrastructure at the velocity our customers need it, even in a supply-and power-constrained market such as Chicago, anywhere in the world.”

The Aligned ORD01 data center is located in Northlake, IL, outside downtown Chicago, at the convergence of over 12 metro, long-haul, and international networks.

As part of the Data Center Investment program offered by the State of Illinois, Aligned Data Centers’ customers will benefit from various tax exemptions from state and local taxes. The program is made available only for qualifying Illinois data centers. Last year, Aligned received approval for the data center tax exemption program from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO). This has enabled low construction costs and equipment purchases to encourage large-scale investments in the area.

The Chicago data center is designed with the company’s own cooling technology that uses a waterless heat rejection system. The cooling technology allows customers to incrementally scale from 1 to 50 kW per rack within the same row. While maintaining sustainability, the Delta3 cooling system delivers efficiency at load utilizing up to 80% less energy and 85% less water to reduce resource usage.

Aligned recently announced the integration of OrginMark, a material traceability system to accelerate supply chain decarbonization and circular asset management. The introduction of the OriginMark system expands the company’s existing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategy to provide a transparent view of its carbon footprint. The Aligned Insight platform will help enterprises to identify the trapped carbon and manage the circularity of the products– also true for the new builds such as hyperscale data centers in the Chicago metropolitan area.
